Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

The most frequently asked questions about bariatric surgery and their answers

Patients with a BMI of 40 or above, or a BMI of 35-39.9 combined with obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea, are generally within the considered patient group. Adults aged 18-65 fall within the typical indication range. Final eligibility is determined through individual clinical assessment.

Sleeve gastrectomy is less invasive, preserves intestinal absorption and carries a lower long-term vitamin-deficiency risk. For advanced type 2 diabetes, severe reflux or BMI 50+, gastric bypass / mini bypass delivers a stronger metabolic effect — we decide together based on your health profile, blood values and lifestyle.

With an experienced team and a fully equipped hospital, the sleeve gastrectomy complication rate is below 1% — comparable to a gallbladder operation. Possible risks include bleeding, infection and rarely a leak at the staple line; thorough pre-operative testing, coagulation profile and pulmonary assessment minimize these risks.

Following sleeve gastrectomy, loss of 60-70% of excess weight within the first 12-18 months is reported in the literature; following gastric bypass, 70-80%. An average loss of 10-15 kg in the first month is within the typical range. Surgery is a tool; long-term maintenance of outcomes depends on adherence to nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. Annual follow-up, dietitian assessment and revision options where indicated are part of the standard follow-up protocol.

Patients typically stay 3-4 days in hospital. You can return to a desk job in 7-10 days and to physically demanding work in 3-4 weeks. Full recovery takes 4-6 weeks; heavy sports, swimming and long travel are allowed after week 6.

We offer all-inclusive packages including a free online consultation, VIP airport transfers, companion accommodation, interpreter services and 1 year of free online follow-up. The average stay in Turkey is 7 days, and the total cost is 60-75% lower than in Europe or the USA. Reach us via WhatsApp or email for detailed package and pricing information.
