Assoc. Prof. Hacı Hasan Abuoğlu is an Istanbul-based general surgery specialist who has performed over 10,000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures and completed advanced hepatopancreatobiliary surgery training at the Cleveland Clinic (USA). He is a member of IFSO.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hacı Hasan Abuoğlu is an Associate Professor of General Surgery, born in Konya, Türkiye (1977). He graduated from Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine (2000) and completed his General Surgery specialty training at Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul (2009). He currently practices bariatric and metabolic surgery in Istanbul.
In 2012, he joined the liver transplantation team at the University of Health Sciences Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital and subsequently served as the responsible director of the hospital's Organ Transplantation Department. During these years he was actively involved in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery (covering the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract), gastric and colon tumor surgery, adrenal surgery, and hernia surgery. In 2014, he worked for six months as a research fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation Service in the United States, and during the same period took part in renal transplantation procedures with the kidney transplant team.
In the following years he focused his clinical practice on bariatric and metabolic surgery, applying the advanced laparoscopic experience gained during his earlier work to this field. In 2019, while serving at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor of General Surgery by the Turkish Interuniversity Council.
His clinical approach is built on multidisciplinary collaboration. Patient evaluation is carried out through a team process that includes endocrinology, nutrition, and psychology support; surgical decisions are made after a thorough assessment of the patient's full metabolic and clinical profile, and long-term follow-up is maintained after surgery. Alongside his clinical work, he continues his academic activities, participating in national and international scientific meetings and contributing to publications in international journals. He currently practices at his private office and affiliated hospitals in Istanbul. He speaks Turkish, English, and German.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hacı Hasan Abuoğlu was born in Konya in 1977 and practices as a General Surgery specialist in Istanbul. In 2019 he received the title of Associate Professor of General Surgery from the Turkish Interuniversity Council. His clinical practice is focused on bariatric and metabolic surgery, and he has performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic operations over the course of his career. He is a member of the Turkish Surgical Association (TCD), the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association of Türkiye (BMCD), and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), among other national and international societies.
His clinical practice is focused on bariatric and metabolic surgery. The established surgical techniques he applies include sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, mini gastric bypass, metabolic surgery procedures for type 2 diabetes, and revisional bariatric surgery. Earlier in his career he also actively worked in advanced laparoscopic surgery, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, gastric and colon tumor surgery, adrenal surgery, and hernia surgery.
He graduated from Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and received the title of General Surgery Specialist in 2009. Over a surgical career spanning more than two decades, he completed his residency at Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital, worked in transplantation and advanced abdominal surgery at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital, and subsequently focused on bariatric and metabolic surgery. To date he has performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic operations and has contributed to 56 scientific publications in national and international journals.
